Obituary for Sing Kee Lai 黎成基先生

Sing Kee Lai 黎成基先生
Lai 黎成基先生, Sing Kee - Die Peacefully in Stratford, NJ on August 31st, 2017 at the age of 86 years. Sing Lai 黎成基先生 is survived and fondly remembered by his wife Anita, and his son Daniel.

Born in Southern China, Sing Kee (AKA Sandy) Lai grew up in a time of war when Japan invaded China. As a child, he remembered the time that the Japanese soldiers captured him and made him carry their radio from camp to camp and served as a food taster. Fortunately, he was able to escape under the tent flap while no one was looking and ran back home.

As Sandy entered adulthood, he made the decision to claim his birthright by coming to the United States where his father had been born. After crossing the Pacific Ocean by boat, Sandy arrived in San Francisco where he went through the immigration process. Once cleared, he crossed the land by train that his Grandfather had had a hand in helping to create. While not a laborer on the transcontinental railroad, Sandy’s grandfather had come the United States in the 1860’s with his wife. Because he was educated, he was able to find a clerking job with the railroad company. It was during this time that his children -Sandy’s father and aunt - were born, citizens of the United States.

In Philadelphia, Sandy found a community and eventually started his own business - a laundry which eventually grew into a dry cleaning business. He ran his businesses successfully until he retired to enjoy life with his wife, Anita, of fifty-four years. Along the way, he made many friends and earned a reputation as a helping hand to many - here

Memorial donations in Sing's memory may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
