Obituary for Paul Tung Chye Kan 簡棟材先生

Paul Tung Chye Kan 簡棟材先生
It is with heavy heart and great sadness that the family of Paul Tung Chye Kan let family and friends know of his passing on March 15th, 2018. Paul is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ma Htwe Lay, and his children, Malinda (William), Debbie (Alan), Neil (Stephanie), Theresa and Amy. He will be missed by his 11 grandchildren, Christopher, Gabriella, Nathanial, Lauren, Alison, Nelson, Noelani, Megan, Jillian, Adalia and Alexander.
Paul was born in Canton, China. After fleeing to Burma during World War II, he worked as a taxi driver and carpenter before coming to Philadelphia in 1970. He worked at Plumb Tools and Budd Company as a Tool & Die Maker. Dedicated to his family and friends, disciplined with his every day walks of 10,000+ steps, he was always happy and smiling. Next to spending time with his grand kids, he loved his electronic gadgets waiting for the next new cell phone or TV or computer. He would spend 3 hours every Friday taking computer classes, always learning. He also loved taking photos of everything and everyone everywhere he went. He loved attending free events in the city with his wife and getting all the freebies they could. They would come home with big smiles on their faces and take a selfie with all their newly acquired treasures. It's the little things that matter. It made them happy. He has touched so many lives and will be dearly missed.
Paul is resting at the Choi Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for an evening visitation on March 27th, 2018 (5:00 pm to 8:00 pm) and morning visitation on March 28th, 2018 (9:00 am to 10:45 am) at Choi Funeral Home, 247 North 12th Street, Philadelphia, PA. Service to begin at Choi Funeral Home March 28th, 2018, 11:00 am, followed by internment at Northwood Cemetery, 1501 Haines Street, Philadelphia, PA.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Paul’s name to the Alzheimer's Association in support of his surviving wife.
